I am so excited with working together with Velvet Lily Florist, we had a meeting on Friday and I am very excited about the creations and indeed work of art that the team has planned for the Magic Faraway Tree Party, a Silver and Pink Wedding and the Adriano Zumbo High Tea Event at the Geelong Food and Wine Show.

The Velvet Lily team is indeed unbelievably creative and they have a farm in Red hill - which is a beautiful part of Victoria where they grow some of their gorgeous fresh flowers...their ideas and input into the forthcoming creations for the events are nothing but awe inspiring.

Not to mention they are a lovely lot at Velvet Lily.

I am writing this as I have just spoken to them and they have just done the most amazing wedding table centrepiece and I am incredibly super excited...I get so excited when I see something that is so creative and beautiful.

How do I start a Dessert Buffet - Candy Buffet Business or sell candy?

Thought I would write a quick blog post whilst taking a coffee break from the two events we are styling...

We get alot of enquiries about how to start a Dessert Buffet, Candy Buffet, event styling business or an online store. We have just had our inspection at Little Big Company with our local council to do with our food act and we passed with flying colours....so I thought I would write a blog post to answer some of the questions that we get on our email.

Hope it helps...

What are the steps to start my own Candy or Dessert Buffet Business or online Party store which sells candy?

1. You must register your business name as a business or as a Company and apply for an ABN (Australian Business Register Number by Law for either registration)

2. You MUST get a Food Act Registration as you are handling and transporting cakes, cookies, desserts, candy, even if you just handle the candy you must also get registered. There are different levels of classifications. Your council will be able to help you with all of that and it is advisable to contact them asap before you begin trading. Also if you have a business that sells candy you must have a Food Act Registration. They do spot checks to ensure that you are complying to all their recommendations, you can register with your local Council. To sell cakes to the public, decorators must complete food safety training, obtain a Food License and home-bakers are prohibited from using fresh cream, cream cheese icing or any other fridge-only products. You also have to have safe and clean premises as to where you store the candy, if you are re-packaging that candy for resell you must have an approved sink and clean area to do so. You also need a food act registration even if you are opening the bags of candy to place in the apothecary jars and vessels, as this is classed as food handling....

3. It is strongly advised to get Public Liability Insurance as an Event Stylist and as a business. For instance when you are doing photo shoots, you need to be indemnified when you are doing a shoot on various premises. Also when you are styling an event for a client you need to have public liability insurance. I recommend Business Insurance Australia here.

4. It is also strongly advised to get Business Insurance for your online business or store.

5. We have an agreement set up with our clients which sets out our terms and conditions for them to sign before we do any event.

6. If you are earning over a certain amount of money you need to be registered for GST and you need to check the requirements through your local taxation department.

7. If you have anyone working for you, you need them to be covered with all the worksafety regulations and requirements. Occupational Health and Safety (ie lifting props etc).

8. If you are booking with a Candy or Dessert Buffet Company or Cake business ensure that they are Food Act Compliant and are currently registered, they are required to have a registered kitchen with their local city council.

9. Intellectual property is very important within the party business, photos of your tables, items that you have sourced and photographed are your own IP, it is a good idea to watermark your photos.

10. We have a trademark at Little Big Company and you can also obtain a trademark so no one is able to take versions of your name or branding.

11. Now you can have fun sourcing all the props, tablecloths, risers, jars, cakestands etc!!!

Sage green, lemon and white baby shower

We received this gorgeous sage green, lemon and white themed baby shower from Alex at The Inspired Occasion. I love the colours and the stylish touches. The backdrop is very clever and the lanterns give a very elegant feel to the entire event.

The theme started as a colour palette of sage green, lemon and white and as the styling process began - they incorporated the birdcages.

They created a delicious and elegant dessert station filled with; decorative cupcakes, colour coordinated cake pops, individual panna cotta cups and peppermint macarons. All the guests also took home a personalised and bagged decorated melting moments.

The divine cake is their popular rosette style in red velvet and cream cheese.

The guests also enjoyed a selection of beverages from the drinks station which was decorated to suit the theme using glass bottles, vintage straws,drink dispensers and glass wares, with the special gift to the expectant mum a Nappy Cake & that also doubled as a centre piece on the drinks station.

The party space was in an alfresco courtyard and to incorporate the themeing they set the dessert and drinks station in a party tent. All guests were seated on chairs that were dressed with lemon sashes and birdcage centrepieces were accented around the tables. The backdrop to the dessert station was hand crafted by The Inspired Occasion as was the birdcages and other items.

We have had a great week at Little Big Company, we are proud to be on board with the Geelong Food and Wine Show. Little Big Company is styling the High Tea Event for Adriano Zumbo, this is part of the fantastic Geelong Food and Wine Show...which has a great program of events running. Have a look here...I think I will be going to a fair few of the events they have over that weekend. Amazing.

Our lovely customer S planned a beautiful and gorgeous party for her adorable 1 year old little girl in pink and aqua - she put alot of effort into it, with lots of her own personal touches and it looks like a wonderful day!. Our Childrens principal and a much loved nun was retiring, so we thought we would theme a "A Flying Nun" Themed Elegant Cocktail party for her, she is such a lovely principal with a great sense of humour, so we had fun with this theme. Do you recall the Flying Nun TV series with Sally Field starring in it...that's what we have themed it around...Green Beansie Cards did the printables, Peter Casamento did the photography and CAN designs in South Melbourne did the backdrop.

A blue and white Christmas inspired by Delftware Styled by Little Big Company, Just Call Me Martha and Lily Chic Events

We are very excited that Little Big Company joint collaboration with Just Call Me Martha and Lily Chic Events was featured on Amy Atlas today aswell as featuring in Peekaboo Magazine.

Little Big Company loves getting together with the uber talented Leoni from Just Call Me Martha and Lily from Lily Chic Events. We got together to organise a beautiful baby's first Christmas for baby Hugo
using Delftware as inspiration, or otherwise known Delft pottery which is
blue and white pottery made in and around Delft in the Netherlands

We wanted to follow the blue and white theme, make it elegant but also
bring in the baby's first christmas theme, so the little blue owl on the
cake and the little White Mini Fruit Cake Presents, Leoni found the fabric for the backdrop and I got our new snowflake poms and indigo poms and added a hanging effect with silver christmas decorations from our shop..we added touches of silver to the table with gorgeous christmas decorations from Lily Chic and accentuated them with our cloches which are from Little Big Company and bring that elegance in with gorgeous french dinner plates from Lily's shop, the white chandelier from Little Big Company shop, hanging decorations and gorgeous cake stands from Little Big Company. I used our gorgeous mini felt Christmas mittens to put the spoons in from little big company online. Leoni from Just Call Me Martha made beautiful delft inspired cookies which were christmas decorations which we decorated the gorgeous white Christmas tree with from Lily Chic's shop. Theoverall look was fresh, elegant and tied in with a
Christmas theme. We also wanted to have a different colour for Christmas.

The crackers were homemade from paper rolls and made by Leoni (purchased in a packet from
Spotlight) and then covered in tissue paper and fabric.

The Christmas presents were wrapped in beautiful paper and accents of
brooches and ribbons were attached to them.

The Christmas decorations on the white tree where delft inspired biscuits.
The beautiful printables were designed by Ham&Pea Design & Paperie, Li-Ann
designed it around a Delft look and added a little blue angel to one of
the designs and really made a beautiful invitation for baby Hugo's first
Christmas and the Dessert Buffet Labels were gorgeous from

Football Party in the Park

On a beautiful day in Melbourne, we organised a football themed party for a gorgeous 10 year old with wooden football favour trinket boxes, a delicious chocolate cake, fresh oranges for half time, a game of football and Mel and I even got to practice a kick or two! it's all about participation and the theme was "Go Team" and with over twenty 10 year old boys it was definitely a team!!!

We have to say we were very good at putting up the large marquis and even had the professional team playing next to us at the oval ask us if they could have a half time table for their game!!! We just put together some quick shots from our camera and here they are!

Grandparents Day at our children's school

We offered to do a table for Grandparents or special person day at our kids school. It's a day where the children can show their work, their classroom and having morning tea with their grandparents - it's an exciting day for all. We used the cream tea pots from our online store here & decided to do a sunny, cherry and spring table using Bird's Party free "Back to School Printables", on the table we had mini lemon meringue pies, freshly made cheescake,chocolate rice bubble cupcakes which the kids made and loved!!! white chocolate cupcakes, fresh fruit, lemon cupcakes and fresh lemonade.
